Twitter announced from Tuesday, most countries users can use 280 characters to express their ideas. Prior to this, the message length was limited to 140 characters or less.

Twitter 280 Characters

According to Twitter, from the historical data, 9% of the English Twitter messages are limited to 140 characters, which requires the user to spend time editing and sometimes the user discards the information. In a statement, Twitter product manager Aliza Rosen said while waiting for the character to be lengthened, Twitter wanted the service to remain fast and simple. When users need to send more than 140 characters of information, it is easier to handle and the frequency of sending increases, and more importantly, most of the time the user sends less than 140 characters of information, Twitter’s simplicity is preserved.

Twitter also found that if they leave more room for their users, they will spend more time and be more engaged on the Twitter platform. After expanding the character, only 1% of the messages hit the cap. During the test, only 5% of the messages were longer than 140 characters and 2% were longer than 190 characters. Rosen said the number of tweets seen on the user’s timeline is the same.

However, unfortunately, Japan, South Korea, China, users still can not use more than 140 characters. The reason is that Twitter believes that these three countries have highly concentrated language, so it is not difficult to express ideas within 140 characters, so there is no need to expand.
