The South Korean electronics giant Samsung is of course already working on the successor products following the launch of its flagship smartphones in the spring. The new models, ie the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, should, according to well-informed sources, be codenamed “Star”.

As US journalist Evan Blass, better known under his Twitter pseudonym @evleaks, claims to have learned, the Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960) is codenamed “Star 1,” while the larger sister Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus ( SM-G965) has been internally named “Star 2”.

The two sources did not disclose further details at first, but Blass made it clear that Samsung intends to make more careful upgrades next year. He said that 2018 would be a “tack year” for Samsung as part of the “tick-tack” scheme. Similar to the strategy of Intel and other manufacturers is therefore not to expect a fundamental revision – as usual in “tick years” – but with an incremental update.

Of course, according to observers, Samsung will largely stick to the stretched display introduced with the Galaxy S8, which will cover almost the entire front of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. The manufacturer already announced Samsung Exynos 9810 Octacore SoC used, in some regions, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845should be used.

In addition, it can be assumed that Samsung, as with the Galaxy Note8 and the S9 in the future, should rely on the use of a dual camera unit. From China, however, it was heard that only the larger model with a dual camera should come along. In addition, there are rumors that the company is investing more in technologies for identifying the user by facial recognition in order to catch up with the Apple iPhone X, which has recently come up with the so-called “Face ID”. The system detects the user’s face with the help of a type of laser scanner to unambiguously identify it.
