Samsung Galaxy J5 Is Good But Expensive

Jul 9, 2017 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

The new Samsung J series is constantly improving, both in terms of quality and price. Samsung Galaxy J5 is a lot like Galaxy A3, but it is more affordable. Read on for a detailed review!

Samsung Galaxy J5

The Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 is powered by a proprietary Samsung processor, the Exynos 7870, 1.6GHz octa-core, along with the Mali T830 MP2 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The internal memory is expandable and is offered in the 16 GB base cut. The sensor array is complete and sees the presence of accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, a brightness sensor, and proximity sensor. At the bottom, below the display, there are two non-retro-illuminated soft-touch buttons and a home-based keypad with an integrated fingerprint sensor. Lack of backlighting is a shame while the home key works well and the sensor is quite accurate although it is not as responsive as turning on the display. Connectivity is complete for this price range: LTE data exchange comes to Cat. 6, there is GPS, NFC, FM radio, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2. Everything works as it should be. The telephone signal is average, as well as WiFi which is not astonishing for the scope but at the same time, it will not give you notable scratches. The call quality is good and for handsfree, you can use a decent speaker located on the right side of the frame, not very powerful but sufficient. The hardware is the same as the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 but the performance is quite different, unfortunately, the Samsung Experience 8.1 seems to be an indigestible UI on mid-range handsets. Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 has many uncertainties and can be less reactive some time. This can be annoying during times when you need to get a task done quickly. Apart from the lack of responsiveness, the performance is pretty good. You can do everything from multitab navigation to intense gaming. Of course, if you are looking for performance you just have to look elsewhere (such as an A5 2017 ), otherwise the small J5 will be able to give you some satisfaction.

The ergonomics and design are two key aspects of the Samsung Galaxy J5 2017, it is slightly larger (146.2 x 71.3 x 8 mm) than A3 because of the 5.2 inches screen, but equally portable and well-finished. This is a mono-shell aluminum smartphone, with a dark blue paint that tends to jump very easily, very beautiful in aesthetic and cared for in small details. The lines are soft and stand out in the style launched by Galaxy S7 last year. Unfortunately, it is not waterproof. The weight is 160 grams. The display is an 5.2-inch AMOLED panel with HD resolution. There is a lack of contrast, just like the latest Galaxy A, but for the rest, it is a great screen with vivid and natural colors, great readability in the sun and extreme viewing angles. The audio compartment is entrusted to a mono speaker located on the outer edge of the frame, the volume is not powerful but the audio is clear and the position helps to prevent the grille from being covered involuntarily. The Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 has an excellent photographic subframe: it can count on a 13-megapixel core sensor with non-stabilized F / 1.7 optics and a 5-megapixel selfie cam with LED flash and F / 2.0 aperture. The photos are very nice and slightly above the average of the range between 200 and 300 euros. Depending on the situation we will get really sharp and well-calibrated images on all fronts. At night the lack of stabilization is felt but the results are still satisfactory while remaining abundantly below what can make a top of the range.

The selfies are excellent at the Galaxy A level but you have to remember the fixed fire and not set to infinity, which means that you have to hold the phone about thirty feet from your face for a quality shot. At night the front flash helps and this is perhaps the first smartphone that can exploit it at its best. The video is recorded in FullHD at 30 fps, without optical stabilization but with good digital compensation and much detail in the image. The 3000 mAh battery guarantees good autonomy without surprise. On-screen hours will always be at least 4 and a half but you will hardly be able to go beyond a full day. Considering the hardware, it is not at the highest level.

Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 comes in the market already upgraded to Nougat with Samsung Experience 8.1. This is a completely customizable and very different from the pure version of the Android, you will find several advanced features and a complete suite of preinstalled applications for uncompromising use from the very first start. All this also has a negative loop, that is, the performance of the smartphone, which with only 2 GB of RAM makes it difficult to handle the entire software package.  Unlike the past, Samsung’s UX is very intuitive and well-organized in the menus, but there are some hidden features and a good number of fixes that it is best to adopt to make the most of your device.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 starts from 299 euros. The pros of this phone are its camera, the updated software, and the design. But, the performance and the price-quality ratio is not that good.
