With the skyrocketing global memory prices, people have been concerned about the memory products and their supply. Recently, South Korean media ETNews reported that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is currently refurbishing South Korea’s Hwaseong Plant Line 16, hoping to further expand DRAM production, while Samsung’s Pyeongtaek production line in South Korea will also create a new product line.
Samsung Expanding DRAM Production
Samsung plans to make full efforts into the DRAM production after the second half of next year. In the third quarter of this year, the global DRAM capacity will be 1.1 million units per month. If both of Samsung’s production lines are fully operational, that will boost DRAM supply by 20%. In addition to Samsung, Hynix is also working hard to increase DRAM capacity.

Currently, DRAM memory is still a vacuum in China. The technology has been monopolized by foreign companies for a long time. However, there is recent news that domestic manufacturers are going to independently develop DRAM memory. Siu Yi innovation chip design company recently announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with the Hefei Industrial Investment Holdings regarding a memory R & D project, planning the development and production of DRAM memory particles.

It is reported that the project will be located in Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, the main research and development content is a 300mm wafer, 19nm process memory research and development projects, including the DRAM memory chips. According to the agreement, the total investment budget of this project is 18 billion yuan, with the goal of successfully developing the research and development before the end of next year and achieving a good yield. However, no specific requirements on production capacity have been put forward.
