LG V30: One Of The Most Anticipated Phones Of The Year

Oct 13, 2017 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

LG V30 was one of the most anticipated phones of the second part of 2017. Now that the phone has arrived, here is a review of LG V30. The was launched at the end of August. LG has done a truly remarkable job and this phone can be said to be one of the best ones by LG ever. It is the perfect fusion of a great design and the best mobile phone technology. A high-end picture gallery and an impeccable technical card have raised the bar even higher. Now, let’s just jump straight into the complete review of LG V30.

In the box you get a USB-Type C cable, a pair of high-quality B & O branded earbuds,  and a 9V / 1.8A. This is a top of the range phone by LG. This is a treat for LG fans who were disappointed by LG G6. The processor of the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 GPU and 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. As far as the internal memory is concerned, you get a 64 GB cut with nearly 48 GB available to the user (for LG V30) and 128 GB (for LG V30 Plus). In both the cases, UFS 2.1 is the only difference in support of the Model Plus nomenclature.

The sensors you get are a gyroscope, magnetometer, accelerometer, barometer, brightness, and proximity. The fingerprint reader is conveniently put on the back. It is very accurate and does not miss a shot. It also works through the power button. The notification LED has been replaced by an “always on display” which has been enriched and revisited to make the best of the P-LED display. Connectivity on the phone is complete and there is LTE Cat.16 data transfer (1 Gbps download), Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi ac, NFC, GPS and FM radio

LG V30 is not a phone which stands when it comes to reception. The reception is average, just as it was on its predecessor G6. This is a let down on an otherwise fantastic phone. More was expected from a high-end phone. Afterall, connectivity is the most important aspect of any phone. The reception isn’t that good and the SAR values are very low O data, 375 W / Kg for the head, 1.12 W / Kg for the body. WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth work fine and seem to have no problems.

The performance of LG V30 is impeccable. There are never any problems in gaming or web browsing. Everything runs smoothly. You will face no problems with overheating. The RAM provided is enough and 6 GB is usually OK. The performance of the phone is fantastic. The background processes could have been managed better. Although this does not impact usability, the management is pretty aggressive.

The touch and feel of the phone are fantastic. The compact 6-inch display (151.7 x 75.4 x 7.4 mm) fits perfectly. The assembly precision, design quality, weight (158 grams) and material details are all perfect. The phone is very balanced aesthetically. It is stylish, flashy, and modern all at the same time. LG V30 combines soft line with a large glass surface in a way that it seems to reduce thickness.

The battery of the phone is 3300 mAh. It is almost a surprise that the phone can fit the sensors, battery, and a dual photographic camera in the case. The engineering of the phone is great. Although the phone is great to look at, it looks like some compromises were made.

The phone has  Gorilla Glass 5 glass on the front and rear. It is in aluminum instead of the chassis. There is no dust and water resistance with IP68 certification. The display is an LG P-OLED with 6-inch QHD and resolution with an 18: 9 aspect ratio.
This is not the first time that this technology has been used by LG. It is in line with the current screen trends. The quality is of the display is high and reminds of Samsung’s Super AMOLED screens, although it does not completely match its quality.

In particular, the color calibration and brightness are optimal. The readability is good even under the sun. The viewing angles are OK. At elevated viewing angles, you might see some defects related to color rendering, as white whistles clearly on blue, in the consistency of grey when brightness is low. The intensity of the color is sometimes not uniform and there are some visible horizontal banding effects.
The audio portion is clear. The output quality is high in the headset because of the dedicated 32-bit DAC, but the mono speaker is quite disappointing in terms of reproduction quality and sound pressure. The DAC gives you a large headphone volume (great B & Os packaged) without distortion and full-bodied sound. You can also record audio and video clips in very noisy environments too. SO, LG V30 is good for journalists and operators, It can replace handheld portable recorders.

The battery of the phone is 3300 mAh. It guarantees good autonomy, like most high-end phones launched in 2017. With constant and intense use, the battery can last you 5 hours. If the use is moderate, it will last you the whole day with some residual charge left at the day end. But, when the signal is poor, the battery drains very quickly, because the ‘always on display’ gets activated. This can happen in closed areas or any area that has no reception. If you reside in a rural area or visiting a place with bad coverage, your battery will go down very quickly.

LG V30 will be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo soon but right now it has the Nougat version 7.1.2. Customization of the phone is the usual LG UX that has already been seen on the LG G6. There are some modifications here though.

You see the new “always on display” with quick commands and customization. If you go to the settings menu, you can see Gaming item, which lets you customize resource management for every game. The menus have also been slightly reorganized and now there are a lot more options for calibrating the display of the phone, including the capability to simulate a lower resolution.

The Floating Bar, that is a floating bar which you can place at will and minimize, is the second V20 screen which is no longer present here. This is the most visible novelty dedicated to the V30. It is a nice and comfortable feature. The extensive customization options also complete the preinstalled suite of apps.

The price range of LG V30 is between 1005 USD and 1123 USD. We hope LG will continue to improve its quality. LG V30 is a great phone. It is aesthetically beautiful. The hardware is complete. The front camera and system speaker could have been better. Reception is also not that good. However, LG V30 is a good phone overall.

The phone scores well in most departments. The display, software, and user experience are all excellent. The materials used in the phone are top class. The hardware is also excellent. There is a room for improvement for the audio compartment. Overall, the phone exceeds expectations and is totally recommended!
