Android Oreo Market Share
The new data bring not only the same bad news but also a gratifying fact: The penultimate Android version 7 with the nickname “Nougat” has now at least managed to overtake its predecessor Android 6 “Marshmallow”. 28.5 percent now face 28.1 percent.

So it seems that from the market launch it takes about one and a half years until a new Android version reaches the highest proportion of the installation base. Even with Android 8, it will not go much faster – after all, it comes as the first one not sold by Google devices with the new system on the market and it will take some time until it makes it to important smartphone models, even if they are from major manufacturers.

Google’s statistics do not list versions that have less than 0.1 percent market share. This applies primarily to the very old Android 2.2 “Froyo”, but also for Android 3.0 “Honeycomb”. Also disregarded are the numerous devices on which no Play Store is installed. These are not just a few – because the store is not available among other things in the huge Chinese market.
