Just Over 1% Of Android Smartphones Are Running Android Oreo

Feb 6, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Google is slowly but surely preparing to announce in early May the first information on the upcoming 9th version of the Android platform.Meanwhile, the latest version of Android 8 “Oreo” has finally made it to a market share of just over one percent.

Android Oreo Market Share

First and foremost, the data collected by Google on the configuration of the active Android systems at the end of the month shows that it will take a very long time for Android users to be provided with reasonably current operating system versions in relevant quantities. And while at least the extremely aged versions of “Gingerbread” from the end of 2010 and “Ice Cream Sandwich” from the end of 2011 are slowly but surely disappearing, still significant user groups are still stuck on systems that are about five years old. In particular, KitKat still has a share of 12 percent.

The new data bring not only the same bad news but also a gratifying fact: The penultimate Android version 7 with the nickname “Nougat” has now at least managed to overtake its predecessor Android 6 “Marshmallow”. 28.5 percent now face 28.1 percent.

So it seems that from the market launch it takes about one and a half years until a new Android version reaches the highest proportion of the installation base. Even with Android 8, it will not go much faster – after all, it comes as the first one not sold by Google devices with the new system on the market and it will take some time until it makes it to important smartphone models, even if they are from major manufacturers.

Google’s statistics do not list versions that have less than 0.1 percent market share. This applies primarily to the very old Android 2.2 “Froyo”, but also for Android 3.0 “Honeycomb”. Also disregarded are the numerous devices on which no Play Store is installed. These are not just a few – because the store is not available among other things in the huge Chinese market.
