iPhone X
iPhone X is fragile like a raw egg, but pretty scratch-resistant. It proved to be rather unstable in the classic smartphone case test. Stiftung Warentest has tested in its detailed laboratory test the new Apple flagship model. Their opinion is that iPhone X is so far the most “fragile” smartphone of the group from Cupertino.

As the testers said, the new iPhone could only be certified as “failing” in the drop test. In one of three specimens tested after the “test in the drop drum” the glass back wall was smashed, the other two was a defect of the display. So the new luxury model is the most fragile iPhone of all time: its predecessor and sister models have passed the drop test so far, concluded testers from Stiftung Warentest. iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 had passed the test drum accordingly without much damage.

The testers also criticized the iPhone X battery. Compared to the previous endurance leaders such as Lenovo Moto Z Play which survived 35 hours and the Galaxy S8 which survived 26 hours, the iPhone X fared miserably in the endurance test. From phone calls, navigation, Youtube playback and message reception it could only reach 16 hours. Another criticism of the iPhone X is that with a weak mobile phone network it gets worse than the other two current iPhones.

In addition to clear criticism, the testers also praised some parts of the iPhone X hardware. Thus, the iPhone X with its two camera sensors can take the top spot in photography & videos. Especially moving images are a bit better than the iPhone 8 Plus, the testers said.

Overall, the test conclusion is from Stiftung Warentest is rather sober. Apple has made the iPhone X with innovative design with almost borderless display and new face recognition. According to the testers, the “hefty price” is not worth the model, since the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus would also offer a better battery life at a lower price and a sturdier design.
