The Huawei P Smart is a new, lower-middle-range smartphone with a relatively low price to make the ever-popular 18: 9 format more affordable. The device, equipped with a 5.65-inch FHD + display, will be available in the European market for just € 249 from the end of January 2018.

The official presentation of the Huawei P Smart is still pending, but the Chinese manufacturer had introduced the device a few weeks ago in its homeland as Huawei Enjoy 7S. On the website of a retailer, all the technical data and various official images of the Huawei P Smart in its Western European version have surfaced – including the mentioned price, with the Huawei prices of the almost identical but slightly larger models Honor 7X and Huawei Mate 10 Lite once again vigorously undercuts its own production.

The Huawei P Smart, which carries the internal code name “Figo” and therefore carries the model number FIG-Lxx, has a 5.65-inch LCD screen with 2160×1080 pixels something stretched Full HD resolution offers. The edges are therefore pleasantly narrow, which is why the fingerprint reader is now centrally located on the back. The pixel density is even higher with 428 pixels per inch due to the smaller display size than, for example, the Huawei flagship Mate 10 Pro.

Once again, the Kirin 659 Octa-core SoC, already known from a number of other Huawei smartphones, features eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores under the hood. Four of them are running at 1.7 gigahertz while four more are running at up to 2.36 GHz. The chip also brings along the LTE modem, which allows up to 150 Mbps downstream. Unfortunately, the Kirin SoC also limits Wi-Fi support to IEEE 802.11n 2.4GHz networks.

The main memory of the German version of the Huawei P Smart is three gigabytes in size, while the internal flash memory handles 32 GB and can be easily expanded by microSD card slot. There are also two SIM card slots. Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC are also supported. On the back sits a 13-megapixel sensor, which is combined with a simple 2-megapixel sensor, so as to realize depth effects. On the front, an 8-megapixel sensor is installed.

The Huawei P Smart has a 3000mAh battery powered by a MicroUSB port. With a height of 7.5 millimeters and a weight of 143 grams, the device is relatively compact. As an operating system, the current Android 8.0 “Oreo” in combination with the Huawei’s own EMUI 8.0 runs differently than the Honor 7X. The P Smart will be available in the colors black, blue and gold and is available from the end of January for the price of 249 euros.
