France All Set To Ban The Use Of Smartphone In Schools

Dec 13, 2017 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

The French government wants to completely stop the use of mobile phones in the lower schools of the country.Although it should continue to be possible for students of elementary and secondary schools in France to use their telephone, the use should be prohibited until the end of the lesson.

As reported by the British newspaper The Guardian, France’s Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer recently announced that the measure announced by new President Emmanuel Macron during his election campaign will soon be implemented in the lower schools to ban mobile phones. The new measures are expected to come into force in September 2018.

They provide that all students between the ages of six and fifteen, who attend lower secondary schools, are not allowed to use mobile phones from the beginning of the lesson until their end. This includes both cell phones and smartphones – and also applies during break times. It’s all about the protection of the children, stressed Blanquer.

Teacher associations are skeptical of the state’s crackdown on smartphone use in schools because they see limited enforcement options. How exactly the ban should be implemented, is not clear anyway. Education Minister Blanquer suggested, among other things, install lockers for the storage of equipment in schools.

The critics also doubt that because they see a logistical problem in the return to the children after the end of the lesson. Minister Blanquer does not yet see this problem and several months ago pointed out that it is also common in the government to put phones in lockers before meetings take place. This should also be possible for all other groups of people, including school classes.
