All The Details About Intel’s New 8-Gen Chip With AMD’s Vega GPU

Jan 8, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

With a new combination of processor and graphics chip, the semiconductor group Intel intends to advance the provision of a compact, yet powerful computer. In November, the integration of AMD’s Vega GPUs was already announced, then they jabbered themselves and now the complete lineup will be shown at CES.

For Intel, the processors in question represent its own class within its eighth core generation. And it is by no means the case that simply a stronger graphics unit replaces the previous integrated graphics. Rather, you merge CPU, graphics chip and graphics memory, which were previously added as separate components on the board, to a single package in which the chips continue to exist independently.According to Intel, this saves first of all significant space in the board design. But also the performance of the communication between the components is neatly developed because the respective dies can be connected with high-performance interconnects and longer ways over the classical board lines are avoided.

To start Intel brings now five different models. Some details about the Core i7-8809G had been inadvertently betrayed by the company in advance. In addition, there are the three other i7 models i7-8709G, i7-8706G, and i7-8705G and the i5-8305G. These CPUs come in the sole operation on each 45 Watt TDP.

The processors will either use the Radeon RX Vega M GL or the slightly weaker Radeon RX Vega M GH. Through this, the TDP climbs to 100 or 65 watts at full load. However, this is only achieved if the GPUs switch on with the corresponding amount of work. For the everyday standard tasks, the integrated 630 graphics unit from Intel, which was brought along by the CPUs, is still available. The Vega GPUs can fall back on their work in the same package built 4 gigabytes of HDMB2 graphics memory.

The new integrated package is designed to enable systems that bring many benefits to users, especially in gaming, content production or the use of VR applications. The desktop and notebooks can achieve this with a higher performance in a compact design. The cooperation between Intel and AMD is, in particular, a strong shot against Nvidia, which last played the leading role in the provision of additional GPUs in mobile computers. At least, according to the benchmarks provided by Intel, you can actually achieve good growth: 13 to 40 percent more performance is achieved compared to comparable systems.

Intel is already showing new NUC systems equipped with the new chips at CES in Las Vegas. According to the announcements, Dell and HP will also present something similar at the show. In the trade, the first products appear then probably in the spring. Prices are not yet known.
