Android’s January Patches Lead To Lags And Other Problems

Jan 3, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

For a while now, Google has released a security update at the beginning of the month that is filling smaller and larger gaps on Android. This usually works without major problems, but now Google must also learn that such patches can go wrong.Users who have downloaded the update via Sideload have been affected.

Android Patches

Google’s own devices are usually the first to enjoy new firmware versions, and patches and security updates always debut on Pixel devices. But this also has an effect in the negative sense. Because after the last January update owners of Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL complain about lags and a slower system. Among other things, it leads to slow animations and long app start times.

However, probably only those users are affected who could not wait for an over-the-air update or wanted to have the update manually and used sideload. When the update is carried out, the boot process is significantly longer, the smartphone is stuck on the white screen shortly after the boot animation.

After a while, the process continues and lands user on the lock screen, but the update is not over yet. All in all, the process takes several minutes, so much too long. Also with Apps, it comes in further consequence to problems, with Gmail it comes, again and again, to clearly long loading times. The search engine giant from Mountain View, California, has confirmed this by now, telling 9to5Google that sideloading can lead to problems, but no difficulties are to be expected in OTA.

Fortunately, a fix is probably fast and straightforward feasible, because according to various users, the lags can be fixed by a simple restart.
