Is This Android O’s Most Exciting Feature?

May 22, 2017 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

If the user does not have a good Internet connection, downloading a large number of files is not always convenient, unless the user has unlimited data plan, otherwise in the absence of a speedy WiFi, continuing to download might be a bad idea if it sucks up all the data. Google seems to agree with this view because they have revealed Android O’s pause download feature in the second developer preview version.

Android O’s Pause Download Feature

Pausing downloads on Android is not a new feature, for example, since Chrome 50, Chrome’s built-in downloader has already supported this feature, which is useful. Imagine that the user’s home WiFi speed is very slow, the user is trying to download a large OTA, but the user had to go out to work, there is no WiFi, no pause function, the user must stay home to complete the download or he will have to redownload the whole thing again. That;s why Android O’s pause download feature is very useful. Android O’s pause download feature may also be limited for larger updates. For instance,  smaller updates, do not require Android O’s pause download feature because pausing about 50MB or so is not really necessary. Google engineer Elliott Hughes found the article and posted some comments on Google+ posts. First, the “Pause Update” button is actually one of the new Play Services updates. Second, this feature is not actually limited to the larger update, when downloading smaller things you do not really notice it. Finally, it turns out that the interrupted download should be downloaded from the interrupted place.

Android O’s pause download feature is very important because of two things. Firstly, it will come handy when your internet speed is slow or if you have to go to a place where there will be no internet. Secondly, updates usually stop you from doing anything while they are being downloaded. You might need to use your phone in between, for making a call, for instance. This feature will not make it easier for you to do just that.
