Market research firm Gartner has released a quarterly share of smartphone system share report today, showing a further decline in iOSshare, while Android is still growing.

Android Market Share

Data shows that in the first quarter of 2017, Android system’s market share reached 86.1%, compared with same period last year. The Android market share increased by 2%. On the other hand, iOS system’s market share dropped by 1.1% to 13.7% this year. Interestingly, in the Gartner data structure, there is no “third largest mobile operating system”.  The third category is collectively referred to as “Other OS”, which contains Microsoft’s mobile system and some smaller systems. The sum of these systems accounts for 0.2% of the total market. The data is very bleak for the other OS systems. Last year the market share of other operating systems was 1.1% and now it’s just 0.2%. This shows a decline of around 90%.  At this year’s Google I / O Developer Conference, Google announced that the global use of the Android operating system is more than 2 billion units, and this number continues to increase. The Gartner data has confirmed what Google said.
