3 ways to fatten your pay cheque

Jan 11, 2015 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

When young university graduates join organizations, they are positive and hopeful of a successful career. A successful career means getting promotions, being satisfied with your work and most importantly fattening your pay cheque. The sad reality is that many university graduates are not able to progress in their jobs. They remain with the same salary for a very long period of time. This can be due to a  organizational structure, a lot of organizational politics and intense competition in the job market.

The top three ways that can help you to increase your pay cheque and progress in your career are:

Job Hopping

Keep on searching for new jobs, apply on different websites and follow the official pages of companies to watch for job openings. People who switch jobs are more likely to experience a rapid increase in their pay cheque as the one off salary increase you get while switching, is usually greater than the yearly increments.

Get an MBA –

Many talented people reach a certain level of seniority and then stop progressing further. This has a lot to do with the qualification on paper. They may have excellent business sense and relevant experience but not having an MBA degree would serve as a glass ceiling in their career. Having an MBA makes a candidate’s profile more appealing for higher management positions.

Get a Good Evaluation –

In today’s HR structures much of the pay increase is linked to performance rather than seniority. Performance is usually judged through evaluation by immediate bosses. It is very necessary to get a good evaluation score as this decides the year end increment. Well that does sound obvious but when people get busy with the day to day hectic schedules of their jobs, this fact might become deluded. It is very necessary to be focused on the evaluation that takes place at the end of the year. This can even mean prioritizing the work that will please the boss or focusing efforts on the tasks that are bound to get praises.
