South Korean electronics giant Samsung is currently preparing to launch its new Galaxy A series in 2018. Unlike last year, there will be only the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Samsung Galaxy A8 + (2018) instead of the A3, A5, A7 and A8. The now- released manual from Samsung now allows a first official look at the new design in 18: 9 format.

With the Galaxy A8 and A8 + (2018), each bearing the model numbers SM-A530 and SM-A730, Samsung also corrects its “mistake” to place the fingerprint reader to the right of the camera unit. Instead, the field now sits below the camera, centrally on the back, where most customers expect it. The placement of the loudspeaker, which Samsung now places on the outside right above the power button, also remains curious.

The volume rocker sits as last on the left side, and now the memory and SIM card slots are mounted in two different positions. In the single-SIM models, the nano-SIM slot sits on the left below the center of the housing edge. The memory card slot is located on the upper edge of the case, where in the dual-SIM versions of the Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus also a second nano-SIM finds its place. In this way, both two SIMs and an additional memory card can be used.

On the back of the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) and the normal A8 is also in the new generation again a cover made of glass, whose sides are very strongly curved. Visually, it strongly gears to the current top models and continue Samsung’s design language. It is striking, however, that the edges above and below the display in the new mid-range series are significantly wider than the S8 and Note8.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) will probably be presented very soon for the first time officially. You do not have to do without a headphone jack. Samsung has also deleted the dedicated button for in-house language assistant Bixby.

While the A8 (2018) comes along with at least four gigabytes of RAM in the basic version, the larger A8 + (2018) will come up with up to six gigabytes of RAM and thus scratch the upper class. The heart of the new devices is probably the new Samsung Exynos 7885 Octacore SoC, which operates at up to 2.2 gigahertz and previously reported to be manufactured in 10 nanometer scale. It should therefore bring significant benefits in terms of power consumption.

The cameras are based on a single 16-megapixel unit on the back and a 16-megapixel sensor on the front. The smaller, probably equipped with a 5.7 or 5.8 inch large screen normal Galaxy A8 (2018) is probably a 3000mAh battery used. How big the battery of the Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) is, however, is still open – it will probably move in the region between 3100 and 3300mAh. For the market launch, the new A8 series will probably still appear with Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
