You will often find a numerous students in a college always taking up the debate of their grades in academia. Their common point of debate always remain on this basic question , “Does GPA really matter?”. It Is quite a simple question with an exceedingly abstract responses. As of my personal experience you can debate your complete 4 years in this topic and still might not be satisfied. However, one might consider some important things regarding grading criteria before making any final assumption.

Relative System

If your university or college follows relative grading criteria then it is probably not much of a problem to maintain a good GPA. In relative system usually university measures your performance relative to the class. It means if you come across any seemingly monstrous subject you might still get a B+ in it due to the scaling of your performance relative to your peers. Relative system is by far the most competitive system to answer the question regarding high academic grades.

Maintaining The Cut-Off Level

After getting the college degree , if your plans are to pursue your career in industry, it is highly imperative that you maintain you CGPA above the cut-off line of most industry. Generally a 3.00/4.00 is the benchmark which has been set in the industry. It is agreeable that you GPA may not reflect your true skills and knowledge however, but to proof this to your employer you need to be sitting in front of him during interview. This ultimately is only possible if you maintain their minimum level.

Pursuing Graduate Study

For those folks out there who wish to study further into their disciplines, there is only one answer to the question, the more the better. Applying to any university abroad brings you in competition with rest of the world and here your academic performances matter very much. Generally universities look for a CGPA of 3.5 and above with a good GRE and IELTS/TOFEL score for full or partial scholarship. So, the nerds have it very easy; study hard and score as much as you can.

Finally, it is true that if you are good in your respective field, your result will testify to it. You should nevertheless work hard and do not worry much about the outcomes as GPA is not in your hands but hard work is. Eventually, the talented and deserving ones will get a chance to prove their worth irrespective of their academia.
